Postpartum Anxiety Therapy for Type A Moms
NJ, NY & FL

You've read the books. You've Googled everything. You've asked ChatGPT at 2am. And you still don't feel like yourself.

You've succeeded at everything you've set your mind to. So why does this feel impossible?

It's not because you're doing it wrong. Postpartum anxiety doesn't respond to trying harder.

Does this sound like you?

  • Your brain won't shut off, even when the baby's finally asleep

  • You've tried every sleep method, schedule and tip, and nothing's working

  • Scary "what if" thoughts pop in out of nowhere and terrify you

  • You're snapping at everyone and crying in the car

  • You resent your husband for not carrying his share

  • You feel like you're failing at the one thing that's supposed to matter most

  • You don't know who you are anymore outside of "mom"

If you're nodding, you're not broken. You're a high achiever whose old playbook stopped working, and that's exactly what therapy is for.

Why type A moms struggle postpartum

Control, planning and effort got you everywhere. A baby doesn't respond to any of them. Add sleep deprivation, a marriage shifting in real time and a hundred conflicting pieces of advice before breakfast, and your nervous system goes into overdrive.

That's postpartum anxiety. It's common, and it's very treatable.

What therapy with me looks like

I'm Brittany Gallagher, LCSW, PMH-C, a perinatal therapist certified through Postpartum Support International and a mom of three, so I've been on both sides of the couch. Clients say it feels like talking to a friend who happens to be a therapist, one who tells you the truth instead of just nodding along.

Together we'll:

  • Figure out why nothing's working, and what will

  • Calm your nervous system so every moment stops feeling like an emergency

  • Quiet intrusive thoughts with CBT, I-CBT and ERP, the approaches with the strongest research behind them

  • Process what's underneath with EMDR if a hard birth or old stuff is fueling it

  • Reconnect with your partner as your roles shift

  • Find yourself again, not just "mom"

Common questions

Is it postpartum anxiety or just new mom nerves?
Some worry is normal. If it's constant, hard to turn off, or getting in the way of sleep, eating or enjoying your baby, it's worth talking about.

What are the signs of postpartum anxiety?
Racing thoughts, constant checking, trouble sleeping even when you can, irritability or rage, a tight chest, and scary "what if" thoughts.

Why am I having scary intrusive thoughts about my baby?
Unwanted intrusive thoughts are a very common symptom of postpartum anxiety and postpartum OCD. The fact that they horrify you is the point. They don't mean you'd act on them, and therapy helps them lose their grip.

When should I see a therapist for postpartum anxiety?
Most moms wait 4 to 6 months, trying to fix it alone. You don't have to wait for a breaking point. If you don't feel like yourself, that's enough.

Will insurance cover it?
Many plans reimburse out-of-network therapy. I submit the claims for you, so there's nothing to chase down.
