Postpartum Rage Therapy for Type A Moms
NJ, NY & FL
You used to be the calm, capable one. Now you're screaming over spilled water, then crying in the car because you don't recognize yourself.
You're not a bad mom. And you're not "just tired."
Postpartum rage is a signal that your nervous system is maxed out, not a character flaw.
Does this sound like you?
You go from zero to 100 over something tiny
Everyone annoys you: your husband, your mom, the dog, the sound of chewing
You feel touched out and overstimulated by noon
You resent your husband for not seeing everything you're carrying
You snap, then spiral into guilt and shame
You've tried deep breaths, counting to ten and every Instagram tip, and none of it sticks
You just don't feel like yourself
If you're nodding, you're not alone. Rage is one of the most common postpartum struggles, and one of the least talked about.
Why am I so angry after having a baby?
Rage usually sits on top of something else: anxiety, exhaustion, an unequal mental load, a body and identity that changed overnight.
For type A moms, there's another layer. You're used to being in control, and a baby takes that away every single day. Your nervous system is stuck in fight mode. Yelling is just what happens when the pressure has nowhere else to go.
What therapy with me looks like
I'm Brittany Gallagher, LCSW, PMH-C, a perinatal therapist certified through Postpartum Support International and a mom of three, so I've been on both sides of the couch. Clients say it feels like talking to a friend who happens to be a therapist, one who tells you the truth instead of just nodding along.
Together we'll:
Find what's underneath the rage, whether that's anxiety, depletion, resentment or old stuff resurfacing
Regulate your nervous system so you can catch it before you explode
Rebalance the mental load and get honest with your partner about what you need
Set boundaries with your mom or mother-in-law without the guilt
Repair after you lose it, so your kids learn that's what love looks like
Feel like yourself again, not just a mom running on fumes

Common questions
What is postpartum rage, and is it normal?
Postpartum rage is intense anger or irritability after having a baby. It isn't a separate diagnosis, but it's very common and often shows up alongside postpartum anxiety or depression. Common doesn't mean you have to live with it.
Why am I annoyed with everyone since the baby?
When you're sleep-deprived, overstimulated and carrying the mental load, your tolerance drops to zero. Irritability is often the first sign your nervous system needs support.
Is mom rage the same as postpartum rage?
Pretty much. "Postpartum rage" is the term for the first year or so after birth. "Mom rage" can show up at any stage. The tools that help are the same.
Does postpartum rage mean I'm a bad mom?
No. The fact that it bothers you this much is proof of how much you care. Rage is information, not a verdict.
When should I get help?
If you're yelling more than you want to, feeling ashamed afterward, or don't recognize yourself, that's enough. You don't need to wait for a breaking point.
